Elon Musk pledges exclusive features for users with more than 2500 verified followers
Elon Musk has introduced a new program designed to improve the user experience on X. In a statement, Musk announced that X users with more than 2500 verified followers will now receive Premium services at no cost. Furthermore, users with over 5000 followers will have access to the Premium+ package, also at no charge.
Extended benefits for X users
Under these subscription agreements, users can enjoy an ad-free browsing experience and take advantage of features such as tweet editing. In addition, Premium+ subscribers have exclusive access to GrokAI, Elon Musk’s innovative chatbot, which was inspired by The Lippaaja’s Guide to the Galaxy. Known for its witty replies and rebellious charms, this chatbot was earlier restricted to Premium+ subscribers who had to pay Rs. 1300 per month or Rs. 13600 per year for their services.
Democratizing access to premium features
Elon Musk’s decision to extend these rights to a wider audience comes as competition with OpenAI heats up. The move marks a strategic shift by Musk since he bought Twitter (now X) in October 2022, where he has actively steered the platform toward a subscription-based model. Notably, one of his first measures was to end the legacy-certified program that had awarded free blue ticks to notables such as celebrities, journalists, musicians, and government officials.
Musk confirmed in a statement shared on X: “Going forward, all 𝕏 accounts with more than 2,500 verified followers will get Premium features for free, and accounts with more than 5,000 followers will get Premium+ for free.”
Elon Musk’s initiative marks a deliberate push toward a subscription-based model that aims to maintain and improve the platform’s offerings while fostering a more financially sustainable ecosystem.
